Committee to evaluate BS program in Public Sector Colleges

Chairperson Punjab HEC Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin has said the Punjab HEC and Higher Education Department (HED) have jointly constituted an evaluation committee for BS (Hons) program in public sector colleges across the province.

The committee will give its recommendations for strengthening of BS programs and will also suggest expansion of this program to the public sector colleges on the basis of available faculty, labs and other resources.

The chairperson, addressing the participants, said that the Punjab HEC is not in favour of restoration of the old system of BA/BSc in place of BS (Hons). However, he added, on the recommendations of the evaluation committee, the Punjab HEC will suggest to the Higher Education Department (HED) for provision of funds and faculty in the relevant disciplines to respective public sector colleges.

While discussing the issue of establishing new universities, Dr Nizamuddin emphasised that a high powered committee has already been constituted under the chairpersonship of Rana Sana-Ullah, provincial minister for law, parliamentary Affairs & public prosecution, which will look into the possibility of establishing higher education institutions in the province according to the demography and geography of different areas. He added that the Punjab HEC identified the districts where no public sector higher education institutions were established.
