Punjab govt reschedules school timings amid surge in temperature
LAHORE: The Punjab government on Friday announced rescheduling schools hours amid harsh weather and increase in temperature, Daily Times has learnt
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education and as per the announcement by Minister for Education Rana Mashood, the new school timing, with effect from May 23, is 7:30am-11:00 am.
After the Sindh government's decision of summer vacations, parents in Punjab had asked the provincial government to reschedule summer vacations, which will begin from June 1.
On the other hand, parents of students and teachers had shown mixed reaction over the decision stating that government should follow its Sindh counterpart in facilitating the students, teachers as well as their parents.
Talking to Daily Times, Nasira said that both of her daughters, who are studying in a private school, are sick from the last three days due to harsh temperature. She added that neither school administration, nor the Punjab government is thinking about the safety of students.
She also told that the school had announced the vacation from June 12, which means that students would have to attend school during Ramadan.
A school teacher, Mahrukh, said that Sindh government took a good initiative by providing relief to children as well as teachers by announcing early summer vacations.
She further observed that Punjab government should also announce immediate summer vacations on the instructions of the Met Department, which has predicted a heat wave in upcoming week.
“No matter, there are some examination being held in schools, but nothing is important than student and teacher’s health,” she explained. Mahrukh added that students will be free from schools from June 1, but teachers have to attend schools for further one week.
